U.S. Deploys $35K Shahed Drone Copycats in Iran Strikes

The U.S. military has launched cheap copycat Shahed drones against Iran, marking a dramatic shift from its usual expensive weapons strategy. CENTCOM's Task Force Scorpion Strike deployed the LUCAS drone, developed by Arizona-based Spektreworks, which costs about $35,000 each compared to millions for advanced missiles. These one-way attack drones deliver 'American-made retribution' modeled after Iranian weapons.

This tactical shift comes as concerns grow about U.S. munitions stockpiles in an extended conflict. Former Defense Secretary Mark Esper warned that America's defense industrial base cannot sustain prolonged campaigns or support allies in longer-term wars. The U.S. has been depleting missile inventories while protecting allies with Patriot and Standard Missile interceptors.

The timing is critical as President Trump has suggested the Iran conflict could last indefinitely with regime change as a goal. Retired Admiral James Stavridis emphasized that 'in wars, the true professionals are ultimately the logisticians,' pointing to growing concerns about how deep U.S. weapon stockpiles actually run.
