President Donald Trump will attend the White House Correspondents' Dinner on April 25, marking the first time he has done so as commander-in-chief. This event, a long-standing tradition since 1924, was previously boycotted by Trump during his first term and last year's gathering. In a post on his social media site, Trump stated the White House Correspondents Association had asked him 'very nicely' to be the Honoree, adding 'it will be my Honor to accept their invitation.' His decision comes amid celebrations marking America's 250th birthday.

The dinner, which debuted in 1921, saw Coolidge become the first president to attend three years later. While all presidents since Coolidge had attended except Trump, not all attended every year of their terms. Trump attended the dinner before becoming president and was the subject of a mocking roast by then-President Barack Obama in 2011.
