Boyd testified about his military service and business background, including his controversial restaurant that has clashed with North Myrtle Beach officials. The 33-year-old Spivey was shot after a nine-mile chase that began when he allegedly pointed a gun at drivers. Judge Eugene Griffith Jr. rejected the self-defense argument, allowing Spivey's family civil lawsuit to proceed. Williams' immunity status remains under consideration.

The case gained attention after Boyd posted on Facebook about police assistance, revealing his identity. Phone recordings from Boyd's custody battle became key evidence, showing him expressing minimal remorse and telling Williams he had a "f** blast" during the gunfight. The recordings also captured Boyd suggesting teardrop tattoos and describing Spivey as "terrified" during the chase.
