San Diego County is auctioning over 680 properties starting March 13, with bidder registration now open through March 3. The San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector's office will sell properties that have been in tax default for at least five years, including 70 improved properties, 66 unimproved parcels, and 550 timeshares.

The annual property tax auction represents a significant opportunity for investors and homebuyers seeking discounted real estate. Larry Cohen, the county's Treasurer-Tax Collector, emphasized that all sales are final and encouraged potential bidders to thoroughly research the process on the county's website before participating. The auction runs March 13-18, with properties viewable online.

Property owners can still avoid auction by redeeming their parcels and paying all taxes and fees owed by 5 p.m. on March 12. The county makes every effort to contact owners about impending sales. Bidders must pay a $35 non-refundable processing fee plus a $1,000 refundable deposit, though some properties may require larger deposits. This auction reflects the county's ongoing efforts to recover unpaid property taxes while offering real estate opportunities to the public.
