Dr. Cory S. Goldberg, a plastic and craniofacial surgeon, identifies diet as the single most important factor driving skin aging and poor health. In an interview with Yahoo Canada, Goldberg emphasizes that the food we consume directly impacts oxidative stress, inflammation, and gut bacteria, which in turn affect skin appearance and overall well-being.

Oxidative stress, an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants, accelerates aging and contributes to chronic diseases including cancer and cardiovascular conditions. Goldberg explains that while this process occurs naturally in all living organisms, dietary choices can either mitigate or exacerbate its effects. He notes that the typical North American lifestyle promotes unhealthy habits that harm both longevity and skin health.

To combat oxidative stress, Goldberg recommends reducing ultra-processed food consumption, which studies show increases mortality risk. He advocates for eating antioxidant-rich foods like berries and kale, and suggests incorporating color into meals through fruits and vegetables. The surgeon also endorses GliSODin, an antioxidant enzyme supplement containing superoxide dismutase, which he claims significantly reduces skin inflammation based on his clinical observations.
