Gulfport Seafood Market in Oklahoma City has abruptly shuttered its doors after 51 years of operation, marking the end of a local institution for seafood lovers. The closure came without advance notice to customers, surprising shoppers who frequented the store at 8016 N. May Ave. since its opening in 1975.

The market's Facebook post on March 3rd confirmed the closure, citing significant industry headwinds. The post stated, 'The climate of this industry with all the foreign money buying up all of our suppliers making it difficult to impossible to do business with them as well as the influx of foreign entities buying other suppliers in the region' as the primary reason for the sudden exit. This closure follows the recent shuttering of other long-standing local businesses like Edmond's The Meat Store in 2024 and Bill Kamp's Meat Market in October 2025, both attributed to factors like inflation and health concerns.
