Nevada Brothel Workers Unionize in Historic First

Licensed sex workers at Sheri’s Ranch in Pahrump have initiated unionization efforts, forming the United Brothel Workers Union affiliated with the Communications Workers of America. This marks the first such move in Nevada’s legal brothel industry, driven by disputes over a new independent contractor agreement that workers claimed would cede control of their intellectual property and personal brands.

The conflict arose after management requested signatures on a contract granting the brothel power of attorney and ownership rights over workers’ external income sources, including adult films and social media content. Several courtesans, including Jupiter Jetson, were terminated, which organizers describe as retaliation for opposing the terms and a catalyst for the union drive.

Sheri’s Ranch defends its independent contractor model as foundational to worker autonomy and legal compliance. Attorneys for the union filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board this week, seeking recognition and an injunction against the terminations. A majority of the ranch’s 74 courtesans have reportedly joined the effort, aiming to secure protections for rights, safety, and earnings.
