Astronomers have traced a 3,000-light-year jet back to its origin at M87*, the first supermassive black hole ever imaged. Using the Event Horizon Telescope, scientists linked the jet's base to the glowing ring around the black hole, offering new clues about how these cosmic phenomena form.

The 2019 image of M87* revealed a shadow-like structure, but questions remained about the jet launching mechanism. New 2021 observations show radio emissions from a region less than one-tenth of a light-year from the black hole, aligning with theoretical models of jet formation near the event horizon.

Future studies aim to refine images of the jet base and explore how black holes influence galactic evolution. Researchers plan multi-frequency campaigns to build a complete picture of the central engine. This work marks a step toward understanding how cosmic jets are powered.
