Heavy rainfall across Kentucky in mid-February 2025 triggered catastrophic flooding that killed 23 people and caused widespread destruction. The National Weather Service issued 30 flood warnings and 47 flash flood warnings as several inches of rain fell across the commonwealth, with the highest totals in southwest and central regions.

The storm system brought more than 300 road closures, left over 40,000 homes and businesses without power, and required more than 1,000 water rescues across the state. Winter weather followed the initial flooding, with 3-5 inches of snow falling in parts of Kentucky just days after the deluge began. The Ohio River overflowed its banks in Louisville, cresting near the I-64 overpass at the Fourth Street wharf.

Photos from the aftermath show extensive damage throughout the region, including flooded farms where families lost livestock and homes. The Belle of Louisville was surrounded by rising waters, and neighborhoods like Buechel experienced significant flooding that closed major roads. The disaster prompted a massive volunteer cleanup effort at Waterfront Park, where residents removed debris and trash from tree limbs after the river receded. This flooding represents one of Kentucky's most severe weather disasters in recent years, with recovery efforts continuing months later.
