A weekend storm brought significant rainfall to the Wichita area, with the city receiving nearly an inch of precipitation. The 0.97 inches recorded at Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport marked the largest rainfall since November 20, when the city saw 1.02 inches.

The storm system, which began late Friday in eastern Kansas, created a 5- to 10-mile-wide band of heavier rainfall through northern Sedgwick County. Cheney Lake to Valley Center received between 2 and 4 inches, according to National Weather Service meteorologist James Cuellar. Radar estimates showed the heaviest precipitation in this corridor, though actual measurements varied by location.

The rainfall provides welcome relief ahead of a warm, windy, and dry period expected Monday through Thursday. The precipitation will help mitigate fire concerns during that time. The highest recorded rainfall in the state was 2.47 inches two miles southeast of Ottawa, according to the Kansas Mesonet. Most of Kansas saw measurable rainfall from this system, with northern Sedgwick County stations reporting between 1.11 and 1.51 inches.
