Astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope have identified the most distant known galaxy, named MoM-z14. Located roughly 13.4 billion light-years away, this ancient galaxy formed just 280 million years after the Big Bang, offering an unprecedented glimpse into the early universe.

The discovery challenges long-standing models of galaxy formation. MoM-z14 is brighter, denser, and more chemically enriched than expected for its epoch. Lead author Rohan Naidu of MIT emphasized that such findings contradict prior theoretical predictions, reshaping how scientists understand the cosmic dawn.

With a redshift of 14.4, MoM-z14 sets a new observational benchmark. Scientists expect future JWST data to uncover even earlier structures. This breakthrough reinforces Webb’s role in rewriting cosmological timelines and deepening our knowledge of the universe's infancy.
