Two Illinois men were arrested in Kentucky after allegedly attempting to kidnap a 17-year-old girl from her home. Authorities say Gabriel Waibel, 19, and Chad Goffinet, 43, arrived early morning at the teen's residence claiming they would be leaving together.

The girl’s mother refused and called police after the men departed in a silver vehicle. Deputies located them shortly after in a nearby parking lot. Footprints at the scene linked the suspects to the property, and Waibel reportedly claimed the teen was his girlfriend.

Police discovered the girl had been communicating online with Waibel for months. The pair allegedly planned to travel to Texas before returning to Illinois without parental consent. Waibel faces multiple felonies including attempted kidnapping of a minor and sexual abuse.

Goffinet is charged with complicity in the kidnapping and possession of marijuana. Both remain jailed on bond. The case reveals ongoing risks of online grooming and the importance of digital safety awareness for teens.
