U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is establishing a presence in Carmel, Indiana, though city leaders have minimal information about the agency's plans. The City of Carmel confirmed ICE will lease office space within the city, but referred all questions to the federal agency.

Carmel City Council President Matthew Snyder expressed frustration that local officials had no advance knowledge of the move. Snyder, a Republican, stated he supports law enforcement but questions the necessity of ICE's proximity to existing federal resources. The FBI's Indianapolis Field Office is located just miles from the proposed ICE location.

News of ICE's expansion comes amid widespread anti-ICE protests across the country, including hundreds of students from Indianapolis-area schools who have participated in walkouts. Recent protests in Central Indiana followed the deaths of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, who were killed by federal agents in Minneapolis. Snyder emphasized the need for professionalism and coordination, hoping ICE will mirror the FBI's standard of quiet competence and respect for the surrounding community.
