A Nashville journalist was arrested and detained by ICE agents while documenting immigration enforcement activities. Estefany Rodríguez, a reporter for Nashville Noticias, was taken into custody Wednesday while driving with her U.S. citizen husband in South Nashville. ICE officials claimed her detention resulted from failing to appear at two scheduled meetings, despite her attorney's assertion that no legal obligation existed.

Rodríguez, who fled Colombia after receiving death threats for her journalism, entered the U.S. legally in 2021 on a tourist visa and applied for political asylum. Her attorney, Joel Coxander, stated she received G-56 letters inviting her to ICE offices for processing but was told by officials during a follow-up visit that she wasn't required to attend a February appointment. ICE later claimed her absence from these meetings made her a flight risk.

Rodríguez's employer issued a statement expressing hope for a quick resolution, emphasizing her need to reunite with her young daughter and husband. She was being transferred to an ICE processing center in Louisiana as of Thursday. The case highlights tensions between press freedom and immigration enforcement, particularly for journalists covering sensitive topics.
