New images reveal the plush queen-size bed aboard Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's leased Boeing 737 MAX 8, fueling controversy over her $70 million bid to purchase the aircraft outright. The pictures, obtained by NBC News, show the aircraft's lavish interior including a bedroom with six pillows, an armchair, and mirrored wardrobe.

The Department of Homeland Security has been leasing the jet and reportedly made renovations to the interior, painting the exterior red, white and blue. The aircraft features a kitchen, bar, living space, TVs, and showers, with an "exceptional interior design" reportedly created by renowned New York designer Peter Marino. Noem insists the luxury jet will be used for both deportations and official Cabinet business.

DHS officials claim the aircraft would fly at 40% cheaper than military planes used for ICE deportation flights, potentially saving "hundreds of millions of dollars" for American taxpayers. However, one unnamed DHS official called the claims of the jet being a "necessary purchase" for deportations "far-fetched." The jet currently seats a maximum of 18 passengers, while deportation flights typically carry between 50 and 100 migrants.
