Hungarian opposition leader Péter Magyar launched his campaign to unseat Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, promising to realign Hungary with the West after 16 years of nationalist governance. Speaking at a Budapest rally, Magyar positioned his center-right Tisza party as the nation's best hope to end corruption and restore EU relations.

Magyar, a former Orbán ally who broke away in 2024, has rapidly built Tisza into Hungary's most formidable opposition force. Independent polls show his party with a significant lead heading into the April 12 election, maintaining this advantage for over a year. His campaign focuses on economic grievances, with Hungary ranking among the EU's poorest nations.

The 239-page Tisza program pledges to recover billions in suspended EU funding, adopt the euro by 2030, and invest in healthcare and transportation. Magyar also promises to maintain border security while ending Hungary's international isolation. His team includes energy expert Anita Orbán and former Shell executive István Kapitány, signaling a technocratic approach to governance.
