A one-way attack drone launched by Hezbollah struck the UK's RAF Akrotiri base in Cyprus at midnight Sunday, prompting a partial evacuation of the military facility. The attack occurred hours after the UK agreed to let the US use British bases to target Iranian missile sites, though officials indicate the drone was likely launched before this policy announcement.

Two additional drones were intercepted Monday morning as part of what Cypriot authorities described as sustained targeting of the base. The Ministry of Defence confirmed the incident, stating that force protection measures were at the highest level but proved insufficient to stop the first drone. Defence sources identified the weapon as a Shahed-type drone, an Iranian-designed one-way attack vehicle whose parts have been recovered for investigation.

The attack comes amid escalating Middle East tensions, with the US and Israel continuing strikes on Iran following the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Family members of British military personnel have been relocated within Cyprus as a precautionary measure, while the base continues operations. Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides emphasized his country's non-participation in military operations, despite Britain retaining sovereignty over the two bases on the Mediterranean island.
