A 54-year-old woman was arrested in East El Paso after allegedly evading arrest and driving while intoxicated. Araceli Diaz faces charges of evading arrest/detention with a vehicle and DWI following the incident that occurred around 11 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28.

Deputies responded to reports of a possible intoxicated driver traveling westbound on Rojas Drive toward Joe Battle Boulevard. When deputies attempted to stop Diaz, she continued driving through multiple intersections. The arrest was captured on body camera footage showing deputies breaking her car window after she refused to exit the vehicle.

Diaz was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a total bond set at $12,500. Sheriff Oscar Ugarte emphasized the dangers of impaired driving, stating that one decision can have life-altering consequences. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about drunk driving in the community and law enforcement's commitment to removing impaired drivers from streets.
