DHS Deportation Deadline Looms for Babson Student

The court-ordered deadline for the U.S. government to return Babson College freshman Any Lucia Lopez Belloza to the United States expired Friday night, as her lawyers accused federal officials of stalling. Lopez Belloza, 19, was mistakenly deported to Honduras in November despite a court order barring her removal while her case was pending.

Her attorney, Todd Pomerleau, said federal agents pressured her to board a flight that could have resulted in detention. DHS claims Lopez Belloza failed to appear for her prearranged flight and says she entered the country in 2014 with a removal order issued in 2015. The agency maintains she received "full due process" despite being deported as a child.

Lopez Belloza, who has no criminal record and was studying remotely from Honduras, said she will remain there as her legal team continues fighting for her return. Pomerleau vowed she "is not coming back in handcuffs" and accused the government of interpreting the judge's order to mean she should be detained upon arrival. The case highlights ongoing tensions between immigration enforcement and judicial oversight of deportation proceedings.
