Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado announced Tuesday that he is ending his primary bid against Gov. Kathy Hochul, effectively removing the last serious intra‑party challenger. In a brief tweet, Delgado said no viable path remained and pledged to support a more humane, affordable New York. His withdrawal leaves Hochul unopposed for the Democratic nomination for a second full term in the 2024 cycle.

Hochul’s resurgence began after a rocky 2022 re‑election, where she eked out a six‑point win over Lee Zeldin. By courting progressives such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio‑Cortez and Mayor Eric Adams, she secured an 85% endorsement at the state convention last week. The governor’s shift leftward and aggressive stance against former President Trump have solidified her standing among Democratic voters.

With Delgado out, Hochul added former City Council President Adrienne Adams to the ticket, leaving the former congressman without an immediate political outlet. Other potential challengers—Bronx Rep. Ritchie Torres and GOP Rep. Mike Lawler—have also bowed out, underscoring the governor’s dominance. The cleared primary paves the way for a unified Democratic front as New York prepares for the November election.
