China Signals US Talks While Defending Core Interests

China expressed willingness to engage with the United States while firmly defending its core principles, according to parliament spokesperson Lou Qinjian. Speaking ahead of the National People's Congress annual session, Lou emphasized that Beijing seeks communication at all levels but will not compromise on its sovereignty, security, or development interests.

Relations between the two economic giants have deteriorated due to trade tensions and recent geopolitical conflicts. China views the U.S.-Israeli actions against Iran and the Venezuelan political situation as threats to its strategic partnerships, particularly given both nations' roles as major oil suppliers. Lou called for an immediate ceasefire and respect for Iran's sovereignty.

The comments come as President Trump is expected to visit Beijing from March 31 to April 2, though Chinese officials have not confirmed the trip. Top trade negotiators from both countries are scheduled to meet in Paris next week to discuss potential business agreements tied to the anticipated summit.
