China Claims Trade Compliance, Warns Against New US Tariffs

China declared on Wednesday that it has fulfilled its obligations under the 2020 trade agreement tied to Washington's Section 301 statute, according to the Commerce Ministry. The ministry spokesperson stated that Beijing has already implemented the terms of the agreement and urged the United States not to escalate tensions further.

This statement comes after U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer announced last week that investigations under Section 301 would continue, targeting China and Brazil among others. These probes could potentially lead to additional tariffs if unfair trading practices are identified. The Chinese government expressed hope that Washington would recognize the agreement's implementation rather than pursuing further restrictive measures.

Beijing emphasized its willingness to engage through existing economic and trade consultation mechanisms while warning it would defend its rights if the U.S. proceeds with new investigations and tariffs. The Commerce Ministry's stance reflects growing tensions as both nations navigate their complex trade relationship. China's position suggests it views the 2020 agreement as complete and opposes any moves that could undermine that framework.
