A new AP-NORC poll reveals that President Trump's aggressive stance on acquiring Greenland has created an unusual political vulnerability, with about 70% of Americans disapproving of his approach to the NATO ally's territory. The disapproval extends to his own party, where roughly half of Republicans reject his push to make the icebound landmass American territory.

The poll, conducted February 5-8 among 1,156 adults, found that Trump's Greenland strategy generated his lowest approval ratings among Republicans on any key issue tracked, including the economy and immigration where about 80% approve. This represents a significant departure from Trump's typically unwavering base support. The survey was conducted after Trump abandoned tariffs meant to pressure European nations but during his weeks-long campaign for American intervention.

Younger Republicans show particularly strong disapproval, with about 60% under 45 rejecting Trump's Greenland leadership compared to 40% of older Republicans. Independent voter Aaron Gunnoe, 29, called the aggressive posture toward the NATO ally "the stupidest thing I've ever heard," noting that Greenland is owned by somebody else. Despite this controversy, Trump's overall foreign policy approval remains steady at about 40% among U.S. adults.
