The fee hike reflects a broader industry trend. In 2024, American, JetBlue, and Alaska Airlines all raised checked bag costs by as much as 30%. JetBlue increased fees from $35 to $45 for bags checked within 24 hours of departure, while Alaska raised first-bag fees from $30 to $35 and second-bag fees from $40 to $45.

Travelers can avoid the new fee by purchasing tickets and checking bags online well in advance of their travel dates.
