Vivrelle launches $800 luxury bag rental tier

Luxury‑accessory platform Vivrelle has launched an invite‑only tier called Privée, letting members rent from a vault of Hermès bags—including Birkin, Kelly and Constance—as well as jewelry from Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Bvlgari. The service sits on top of Vivrelle’s standard subscription, which starts at $139 per month. The move follows a broader trend of luxury houses experimenting with rental platforms to reach younger clientele.

Subscribers who opt into Privée pay an additional $800 each month, a price point that positions the offering as a rental alternative to buying a second‑hand Birkin, which can exceed $20,000. By bundling rare pieces with a recurring fee, Vivrelle hopes to capture millennials who value variety over ownership and are comfortable with the fee. The subscription also includes insurance and cleaning services, reducing wear concerns.

The model tests whether high‑ticket fashion can thrive on a subscription basis, a gamble that could reshape secondary‑market dynamics if enough consumers trade access for expense. Early uptake will reveal whether the $800 premium justifies the allure of rotating Hermès icons, or if buyers revert to traditional resale channels for long‑term value.
