The Transportation Security Administration is piloting an ambitious experiment to move airport security off-site. Starting next month, passengers flying Delta Air Lines and JetBlue Airways from Boston Logan International Airport can complete screening at a remote facility in Framingham, Massachusetts, roughly 25 miles from the airport. This pilot program represents a significant departure from traditional airport security models.

Travelers will check in and drop bags at a newly constructed temporary building in Framingham. TSA officers will screen passengers and their luggage at that location. Landline, a company that already operates coach bus routes connecting smaller airports to major hubs, will staff check-in counters and run shuttle buses to Logan. Passengers arrive at the airport already through security, bypassing crowded terminals, chaotic curbsides and long check-in queues.

The initiative aims to relieve chronic congestion at one of the Northeast's busiest airports. Boston Logan has struggled with overcrowding, particularly during peak travel periods. If successful, this off-site screening model could reshape operations at major hubs nationwide facing similar capacity constraints.
