SpaceX secured a major data-center rental agreement with Reflection AI, a $25 billion-valuation startup developing open-source artificial intelligence models. The deal, which could total $6.3 billion, will generate approximately $150 million monthly revenue for Elon Musk's rocket company starting July 1 through 2029. Both parties can terminate with 90 days' notice after an initial three-month period.

Reflection joins Anthropic and Google as SpaceX data-center customers, marking one of the first major contracts since the company's public market debut earlier this month. That listing valued SpaceX at $1.77 trillion, making it one of the world's most valuable companies. The AI startup, backed by Nvidia, positions itself as an alternative to sophisticated Chinese open-source models, emphasizing that 'more compute means more runway to build the world's best open models at scale.'

Open-source AI models differ from proprietary systems by allowing free download and modification. This strategy aligns with broader industry tensions around AI accessibility and competition. SpaceX's stock fell 15% Monday, its steepest decline since going public, as investors digest the company's aggressive expansion beyond rocket launches.
