Sazerac Appeals to Brown Family for Brown-Forman Buyout

Sazerac, the company behind Buffalo Trace bourbon, is making another attempt to acquire Brown-Forman, the maker of Jack Daniel's. Sazerac has sent a letter to Class A shareholders, including members of the Brown family, urging them to reconsider a previously rejected takeover proposal valued at $15 billion. This move aims to increase pressure on Brown-Forman's management, who are focused on improving the company's performance.

Brown-Forman, led by CEO Lawson Whiting who plans to step down, oversees popular brands such as Jack Daniel's whiskey, Woodford Reserve bourbon, and Herradura tequila. In response to Sazerac's renewed interest, Brown-Forman and Wolf Pen Branch, a consortium of Brown family members holding the majority of Class A shares, issued a joint statement. They dismissed Sazerac's unsolicited offer, expressing confidence in the company's current strength and its ability to generate long-term value for all shareholders.
