Paxton Targets Lululemon Over Chemical Claims

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has expanded his consumer product investigations to target Lululemon yoga pants, claiming the athleisure brand contains "forever chemicals" that health-conscious customers wouldn't expect. The Republican senatorial candidate announced the probe this week, accusing the company of marketing itself as a wellness-focused lifestyle brand while potentially exposing buyers to substances linked to endocrine disruption and cancer.

Paxton's investigation comes as he faces Sen. John Cornyn in a GOP Senate runoff election. Most Lululemon customers pay approximately $118 for yoga pants for the brand's status and functionality, not sustainability as Paxton suggests. The company maintains it phased out the controversial chemicals in 2023, noting these substances appear in countless products typically in quantities too small to cause harm.

The legal action represents Paxton's latest high-profile consumer investigation following similar probes into Skittles, Tylenol and Colgate. While the company has addressed the chemical concerns, the political timing raises questions about regulatory motivations. Consumers concerned about product safety can find similar alternatives at retailers like Costco for a fraction of the price.
