LG Electronics reported solid second-quarter net profit, bolstered by resilient growth in its core home-appliance and television businesses, keeping the company on track for an earnings recovery this year. The results build on the company's profit turnaround in the first quarter.

Net profit climbed 28% from a year earlier to 781.30 billion won, equivalent to $541.5 million, for the three months through June, missing street views. Analysts had expected net profit of 802.72 billion won for the latest quarter, according to a FactSet consensus.

The South Korean consumer-electronics titan continues to expand into new businesses such as cooling systems used in artificial-intelligence data centers and robotics. LG has also stepped up its cost-efficiency and restructuring efforts as it continues to face higher logistics and raw-material costs amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and Europe.

A nonrecurring U.S. tariff refund supported the second-quarter earnings improvement, LG said Thursday. The Trump administration has been told to start returning companies more than $130 billion in duties it collected in the global tariffs invalidated by the Supreme Court in February.
