Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed plans to cut approximately 4,000 jobs over the next two years as part of a cost-saving effort worth £1.7 billion. The announcement comes as the company, owned by Indian conglomerate Tata, grapples with tough trading conditions, strong global competition, and the aftermath of a significant cyber-attack. With a global workforce of 44,000 and 34,000 employees in the UK, the reductions will primarily target salaried staff and management, particularly the 26,000 UK-based workers in administration and research roles.

Factory workers paid hourly rates are expected to be unaffected. The cuts threaten the government's reindustrialisation plans and were announced alongside economic speeches by the Chancellor in Coventry. Last year's cyber incident cost the company about £200m and contributed to pre-tax profits falling to just £14m from £2.5bn.

Union leaders have pushed for retraining and redeployment over compulsory redundancies, while the business minister has ruled out taxpayer intervention to stop the job losses.
