General Motors posted second-quarter net income of $1.31 billion, or $1.41 a share, with revenue rising to $48.03 billion. The automaker said customer demand has remained strong in North America.

GM on Tuesday raised its full-year outlook on earnings before interest and taxes to between $14 billion and $16 billion, up from a prior outlook of $13.5 billion to $15.5 billion. Adjusted earnings are now projected to be between $12 and $14 a share, compared with a previous forecast of $11.50 to $13.50 a share.

The company continues to expect gross tariff costs between $2.5 billion and $3.5 billion for the year. However, GM cut its nonadjusted earnings guidance to $8.98 to $10.98 a share, down from a prior view of $10.62 to $12.62 a share, attributing the lower outlook to special items and nonoperating adjustments.
