Fincantieri Expands with Underwater Tech Stakes

Fincantieri disclosed plans to acquire stakes in four companies—Next Geosolutions Europe, WSense, Defcomm, and Graal Tech—to deepen its footprint in marine construction, unmanned surface vehicles, and underwater communications.

The group will spend 600 million euros ($686.1 million) from a February capital increase, and will later launch a public tender to fully acquire Next Geo. Shares adventurous 12% on the day of the announcement, reflecting investor confidence in the new acquisitions.

Analysts note the deals should add 60 million euros to Fincantieri’s net profit this year. Still, the stock has fallen over 25% since the start of the year, driven by the capital‑raising cost and weaker first‑quarter revenue and orders.

For investors, the move signals a shift toward high‑growth subsea and renewable energy markets, but the capital structure changes and the timing of full acquisitions add risk. Business leaders will watch how the company balances these new assets against its existing fleet and order book.
