Deutsche Bank announced a plan to repurchase €500 million of shares after a sharp rise in profit. The German lender posted a pretax profit of €2.68 billion for the quarter ended June, an 11% increase from the same period last year and beating the consensus estimate of €2.25 billion.

The buyback builds on a recent €1 billion program, using net profit to reward shareholders and signal confidence in the bank’s long‑term prospects. CEO Christian Sewing said current performance suggests upside to the 2028 targets.

Sewing highlighted the rapid evolution of AI as a driver of value creation and cost savings, noting that positive trends are becoming clearer across the policy and regulatory landscape.

The €500 million repurchase will further align with Deutsche Bank’s strategy to enhance shareholder value while navigating an evolving policy environment.
