Designer Brands Comparable Sales Fall Signals DTC Channel Woes

Designer Brands reported a 1.9% decline in comparable sales for its fiscal fourth quarter, driven by a steep 11% drop in its direct-to-consumer channel. The company posted a $20 million loss, down from $38.2 million a year earlier, though adjusted earnings fell to 31 cents a share from 80 cents. Net sales of $713.6 million matched the prior year's figure.

The retail segment saw a modest 1.7% decline, while the brand portfolio DTC channel suffered significantly. This performance suggests ongoing challenges in scaling online sales despite overall revenue stability.
