Comcast Q2 Profit Falls, Broadband Losses Narrow

Comcast reported a lower profit in the second quarter, posting earnings of $3.53 billion, or 99 cents a share, compared with a profit of $11.12 billion, or $2.98 a share, a year earlier. The cable‑and‑entertainment company said it lost about 167,000 domestic residential‑broadband customers during the period.

This loss was wider than the 165,000 analysts polled by FactSet had expected, but still below the 201,000 subscribers it lost in the same quarter a year earlier. Comcast noted that the narrowing of its broadband‑subscriber losses for the second quarter in a row stems from the effects of its new go‑to‑market strategy.

The profit decline was largely driven by weaker contributions from its NBCUniversal segment and higher programming costs, reflecting broader pressure in the cable‑and‑entertainment industry as cord‑cutting continues. Despite the headline profit drop, the improvement in subscriber trends signals a modest stabilization of its core broadband business.

Analysts will watch whether the go‑to‑market approach can sustain these subscriber improvements and help stabilize earnings in upcoming quarters. Comcast remains focused on cost discipline and targeted marketing to curb further losses and adapt to a changing media landscape.
