BYD unveiled its Xuanji A3 autonomous-driving chip, a 4nm semiconductor designed for level 3 and 4 self-driving capabilities. The Chinese automaker launched the technology during its tech day in Shenzhen, confirming the chip has already entered mass production. This move signals BYD's push into advanced technology as it seeks new growth amid slowing EV market expansion.

The Xuanji A3 chip supports cars that can handle all driving aspects under specific conditions (level 3) and vehicles capable of operating without human intervention in designated areas (level 4). BYD aims to leverage this technology to differentiate itself in the increasingly competitive EV market, where pricing pressures are squeezing profit margins across the industry.

BYD plans to invest more than $14.75 billion in intelligent technology R&D over the next three years. This strategic shift toward technology development comes as China's EV market growth decelerates and BYD seeks to establish itself as more than just a vehicle manufacturer but as a technology innovator in the automotive space.
