Airbus A380 Fleet Faces Urgent Wing Inspections Over Crack Concerns

European aviation regulators have ordered urgent inspections of 16 Airbus A380 superjumbo jets after discovering cracks in critical wing components. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency issued the directive effective Wednesday, targeting the wing spars structure that supports aircraft integrity.

Five of the affected aircraft require immediate inspection, while the remaining 11 must undergo checks within 25 flight cycles. EASA warned that these cracks could compromise the wing's structural integrity, prompting Airbus to mandate special detailed inspections. The manufacturer declined to comment on the matter.

This development raises concerns for airlines operating the world's largest passenger aircraft. Any grounding or repair costs could impact carriers already facing pressure from reduced travel demand. The A380 program has struggled with limited orders amid shift toward smaller, more efficient jets.

The inspections represent ongoing challenges for Airbus's flagship aircraft. Airlines may face scheduling disruptions while regulators work to ensure passenger safety remains uncompromised.
