Crypto trading firm Wintermute has registered its U.S. arm as a broker-dealer, marking its entry into regulated Wall Street and paving the way for expansion into traditional financial services. This registration allows Wintermute USA to become a designated market maker on exchanges like the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq, facilitating instant trading for investors.

As a registered broker-dealer, Wintermute is now under the jurisdiction of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and must register with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). CEO Evgeny Gaevoy stated the firm will initially focus on crypto-adjacent markets such as commodities and digital-asset ETFs, with plans to move into tokenized stocks if regulators approve.

Gaevoy, a former Optiver trader, co-founded Wintermute in 2017. The firm processed $3.5 trillion in trading volume last year and currently averages $10 billion daily across over 60 venues, including centralized and decentralized exchanges like Uniswap.
