Unsettled Market Vibe: Stocks Test Tech Earnings & Fed Decision

Stocks face major tests this week from tech earnings and the Federal Reserve rate decision. The rally that has survived war, inflation and AI‑driven hype now faces a question grouped around whether investors have reached their limit. Major indexes have posted healthy gains this year, but the S&P 500 and Nasdaq composite fell last week for the second consecutive time, the first such streak since March after the U.S.‑Israeli attacks on Iran.

The decline was driven not by new surprises but by amplified existing threats: the widening Middle East conflict pushing oil higher, bond yields surging to their highest levels in over a year, and a tech giant announcing another increase in capital expenditures. These pressures could intensify with both Microsoft and Meta Platforms set to report earnings on the same day the Fed makes a rate decision.

Even with the economy still growing and companies posting solid earnings, the S&P 500 remains within 3% of all‑time highs. Analysts warn that this week’s events could tip the market one way or another. "Right now the worry list and the list of what’s going right kind of balance each other," said Ed Yardeni, president of Yardeni Research, noting an overall unsettled sense that there are too many uncertainties and problems, so investors should hunker down.
