Japanese stocks rose in early trade, with the Nikkei climbing 0.9% to 62,919.45, recovering from Tuesday’s tech sell‑off.

Chip and auto shares led the advance. Kioxia Holdings surged 7.6%, while Toyota Motor added 2.3%. The broader Topix index also advanced 0.7%.

The dollar traded at 163.88 yen, up from 163.70 at Tuesday’s close, and the yen’s modest weakening provided additional support for export‑oriented stocks. Market participants noted that the rebound reflects bargain hunting in semiconductor and automotive sectors, which had been hit hardest in the previous session.

Investors also monitored potential disruption from a major earthquake in Kumamoto prefecture and ongoing Middle East developments. Trading volume remained light as investors awaited further clarity on the earthquake’s impact.
