Trading platform Kalshi is expanding its fast-growing weather-prediction markets by partnering with the Weather Co., which will verify outcomes on climate trades. The companies plan to explore new markets for sporting events, citing local ski conditions and marathon race days. Consumers trade on predictions ranging from daily high temperatures in Los Angeles to whether 2026 will be the hottest year ever. Kalshi chose the Weather Co. for its trusted meteorological brand. The platform's weather vertical is expected to reach $1.1 billion in trading volume this year, with $564 million recorded as of July 2026, surpassing the 2025 total in March. Total weather and climate market volume has grown 500% year over year. Weather predictions also help businesses like logistics firms, farms, and ice-cream shops hedge weather risk.

"Weather is a quintessential prediction-market category," said Will Brackett, head of partnerships at Kalshi. The Weather Co., which operates weather.com and the Weather Channel app, will display Kalshi's probability data to show how markets price weather risk. "Our priority is ensuring Kalshi's settlements rest on objective, scientifically validated atmospheric data," said James Belanger, vice president of meteorology at the Weather Co.

Kalshi also recently partnered with Cantor Fitzgerald to arrange block trades. While prediction markets gain attention as forecasting tools, competitor Polymarket faces scrutiny for offering bets on disasters like wildfires.
