JGB Futures Dip on Technical Correction After Strong Gains

Japanese government bond futures declined slightly in early Tokyo trading Thursday as traders eyed a potential technical correction following Wednesday's sharp price gains. The gains had been driven by market relief after the U.S.-Iran cease-fire. Investors are now focused on the Japanese Finance Ministry's auction of about 2.5 trillion yen in five-year sovereign notes.

SMBC Nikko Securities analyst Lisa Mochizuki noted in a research report that the five-year sector appears undervalued compared to surrounding maturities. She expects the auction to attract solid demand given current pricing dynamics. The junior analyst added that preliminary indications suggest the auction results could come in on the strong side.

Benchmark 10-year JGB futures were trading 0.14 yen lower at 130.23 yen as of 0014 GMT. The modest decline reflects profit-taking after Wednesday's rally rather than any fundamental shift in market sentiment. Trading volumes remain light as investors await the auction results before positioning for the session ahead.
