The House Oversight Committee released a transcript of its questioning of former JPMorgan and Barclays executive Jes Staley about his association with Jeffrey Epstein. Staley, who exchanged thousands of messages with Epstein, testified on July 24 that he visited Epstein’s private island three times, visited his townhouse dozens of times and had sex with one of Epstein’s “assistants” around 2010. Staley told the committee the encounter was consensual, stating the woman invited him to her apartment. The woman subsequently sued Epstein for sexual abuse and settled with his estate. Staley has previously said he didn’t know about Epstein’s crimes and regretted associating with him.

Committee investigators produced 2005 passenger flight logs showing Staley and his family flew to Epstein’s island in the U.S. Virgin Islands with Ghislaine Maxwell and “three young women who worked for Mr. Epstein.” The logs showed the group flew Feb. 18 and out Feb. 21. Lawmakers also referenced unredacted files showing Epstein directed a woman to buy a Snow White costume weeks prior to Staley’s email exchange referencing “Snow White.” Staley denied having sex with the woman while dressed as the character.

When asked about red flags in Epstein’s accounts, including large withdrawals, Staley responded, “Seems like it.” Erdoes, head of asset and wealth management, has said she didn’t know about Epstein’s crimes. Staley disputed a line in an internal JPMorgan email stating the bank kept Epstein as a client “due to Jes’s personal relationship.” Staley said he twice talked to CEO Jamie Dimon about Epstein when he was a JPMorgan client. Dimon has denied ever meeting Epstein or knowing about him until his 2019 arrest.
