Asian Currencies Consolidate Amid Mideast Conflict

Asian currencies consolidate against the dollar in early trade but may weaken given the escalating Middle East conflict, which tends to undermine risk appetite. U.S. Central Command said in a social-media post on X that American military forces started conducting a new wave of strikes against Iran for the ninth straight night.

"The Iran-U.S. headlines continue to dominate with attacks continuing pushing up oil prices and causing some angst for stocks," In Touch Capital Markets' analysts team says in commentary.

The U.S. dollar edges 0.2% higher to 1,490.20 won, while the Australian dollar is little changed at US$0.6979, LSEG data show. The consolidation reflects cautious positioning as traders assess the geopolitical fallout from sustained military action in the region. Market participants remain focused on oil-price dynamics and potential spillover effects on regional risk sentiment, with the won and Australian dollar serving as key barometers for Asian FX direction amid the uncertainty.
