Wildfires in France and Spain have forced tens of thousands of people to flee their homes. In France, officials ordered the evacuation of the Cap Ferret peninsula, a popular holiday destination in the southwest.

Thousands of people were evacuated from the Landes region of southwestern France due to a "monster" wildfire that has been burning for days. Firefighters are battling the blaze, which has consumed over 10,000 hectares (nearly 25,000 acres) of forest and continues to spread.

Meanwhile, in Spain, fires in the Madrid area were closing in on populated areas, prompting further evacuations. The Iberian Peninsula has been experiencing a severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring well above 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit), exacerbating the wildfire conditions.
