Rough draft plans for an 800-foot-tall residential tower dubbed 'Trump Castle' have emerged after four decades in storage. The massive development, never constructed, represents one of Manhattan's more ambitious unrealized projects from the late 1970s or early 1980s era. Architect Philip Johnson and partner John Burgee created the design before the project was abandoned.

An archivist preserved the preliminary drawings, which recently came to light. The scale suggests it would have rivaled the tallest residential buildings of its era. Johnson's firm was known for major commercial projects during this period, working with Trump on several developments that actually moved forward.
