Trump's $1.8B Fund Faces Legal Challenge

A coalition of individuals and groups has filed a lawsuit challenging Trump's $1.8 billion fund established for victims of a "weaponized" federal government. The plaintiffs argue the fund illegally excludes those actually targeted by the Trump administration while favoring supporters, including those convicted of crimes on the president's behalf.

Plaintiffs include former federal prosecutor Andrew Floyd, professor Jonathan Caravello, the City of New Haven, and the National Abortion Federation. They claim to have faced government targeting under Trump but cannot seek compensation because the fund only considers claims against "Democrat" administrations. Common Cause joined citing transparency concerns.

The legal challenge follows a separate lawsuit by Capitol law enforcement officers who witnessed violence on January 6 but saw rioters potentially receiving payouts. Both lawsuits raise concerns that compensating individuals convicted of political violence could encourage future unrest.
