Trump Renames DC's Reflecting Pool 'American Flag Blue'

President Trump announced renovations to the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool, which he called "filthy" and "dirty." The $1.5-2 million project will replace the pool's surface with "American flag blue" industrial-grade topping. Trump, drawing on his real estate experience, rejected a previous $300 million proposal in favor of contractors who have worked on his swimming pools in the past.

The reflecting pool, site of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, spans over 2,000 feet. Trump inspected the pool with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and Secret Service members before approving the renovation. The president claims the new surface will last 40-50 years without leaks, representing a dramatic cost reduction from the original proposal.

Trump's involvement introduces a private-sector approach to public infrastructure, potentially setting a precedent for future renovations. The president highlighted his experience building "more than 100 swimming pools" as justification for selecting his preferred contractors. Work began two weeks ago, with Trump noting the pool now has a "nice, clean surface" awaiting its new blue topping.
