James M. McDonald, a former federal prosecutor, has been appointed as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

McDonald previously represented President Trump in his appeal of a criminal conviction. The appointment was made by federal court judges.

This role places McDonald in charge of one of the nation's most prominent federal prosecutor's offices, responsible for cases in Manhattan and surrounding areas.
